The  Castor-oil Plant（Ricinus communis）belong to euphorbia，originated from Egypt，Ethiopia and India. Subsequently spreaded abroad toBrazil，Thailand，Argentina，United States of America etc. . It has about 1,400 years history that transmitted from India to China .  India is the most yield country of Castor-oil plant seed, the next is China，Brazil and Thailand.

As the castor oil possess the characteristics that not easy to concretion or volatilization in low or high temperature, etc. It becomes the most important lubricant in aviation，spaceflight field.  The castor oil has more than 3000 products after the deep processing .Methyl-lipid and Butyl-lipid that be made from the castor oil by lipolysis change is a main raw materials to produce lubricant, plastic, cosmetics, detergent etc. Therefore, Ricinus can’t be replaced in national economy development.

Before 1980s, the castor-oil plant were planted very widespread in our country, but it was eliminated through selection or contest gradually , because of the regular varieties yield and benefit is low , the scale of planting is small and very hard to sale . After 1990s, the yield of costor-oil plant increase in times because of the arising of hybrid varieties , and the benefit is improved gradually from 300 yuan to more than 1000 yuan.   Predict according to the expert, after several years, the regular varieties of castor-oil plant will be replaced by hybrid varieties completely . Castor-oil plant production will be growing to well-breed, large scale , high efficiency , industrialization.

 The castor-oil plant was planted without obvious area distribution boundary in China. From southern Hainan Island to northern Heilongjiang Province all can cultivate. Because castor-oil plant have many outstanding characteristics , such as endure drought , leanness, salt and alkali, anti diseases and pests , adaptability strong , management is simple , invest small and benefit high etc. The castor-oil plant can be planted the rich fields , upland, hillside , salted land even field side ,in front of house or back of house . The technology of planting is simple and easy to operate.  In the Northeast, Northwest and Northern of China, the castor-oil plant has been become the preferred crop for dry farming and efficient agriculture and widely planted

Because of the shortage of raw material of ricinus, the most enterprises are bothered and in lack of the raw material. So, ricinus planting never have the problem to sell.

Compared with food crops, the castor-oil plant is an economic crop, which is cultivation simple, save time and labor, devotion little and benefits high. Furthermore, caster-oil plant all can plant in field or side, in front of house or behind because it has a strong adaptability, bear barren, anti diseases.
